It’s the holidays!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Everyone at the centre is very excited about the holidays. Some will be spending lots of time with us at the centre, and others will be lucky and be able to get down south into the warm sunshine.
For those of us visiting the centre over the holidays, whether for a session, after school, or our weekend friendship club, we have many opportunities to focus on developing our social skills, as we complete crafts, games, and parties together. For example, at a recent social skills group we practised writing a letter to Santa. Something as simple as writing a letter to Santa promotes many skills such as, fine motor skills, manding from peers/instructors, sharing of materials, turn taking, practising appropriate greetings, creativity, storytelling, and show and tell just to name a few!. After completing our letters, we practised reading our letters to each other before placing them in envelopes and sending them along to Santa. The kids enjoyed this activity and were happy to share what they would like for Christmas, and felt safe in sharing their opinions with each other. This is just one of the fun activities we completed as we get ready for the holidays.
We hope that every has a safe and happy holiday season, we can’t wait to see old friends and meet new friends in New Year!
