IBI Therapy
IBI (Intensive Behaviour Intervention ) is an intensive treatment program based on the principals of behaviour. Using the principals of behaviour, IBI intends to change certain behaviours in measurable ways. IBI’s goal is to build a variety of communication, social, cognitive and adaptive skills while reducing challenging behaviours. In this treatment model a child typically receives 20 or more hours of IBI per week. It has been proven to be an effective and safe treatment option for many individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (The National Research Council’s book Educating Children with Autism, 2001)
What is ABA Therapy?
ABA therapy (Applied Behaviour Analysis) is the process of studying and modifying behaviour (Morris, 2012). By understanding and identifying the function of a behaviour one may use ABA to modify a behaviour.
IBI / ABA Curriculum and Assessment
The first step towards designing a specialized curriculum is administering an assessment to determine your child’s specific areas of need. Once the students needs have been established, an IESP (individual education and service plan) will be designed. The goal of the IESP is to attempt to correct or remediate any skill gaps and deficits identified during the assessment phase and reduce challenging behaviours.
